Set in the style of a television documentary ‘Flame! A Musical Journey’ introduces the five youngest nominees on the day they receive their letters telling them that they will be carrying the flame through their home towns as part of the National Flame Relay (Open up the Nominations).

We witness excitement, jubilation and upset as Tools is nominated but her twin sister Ali is left behind. Andy’s Grandad was a national runner 50 years ago and has inspired Andy to apply and is now busy training him for the experience (You’re on the Starting Block of a Fabulous Journey)

Tyreese wins his nomination through a competition on a children’s TV programme and all five nominees are given a tour of the studio as they sing Tower of Strength describing their inner passion to succeed.

Whilst at the Relay Headquarters we discover that the invitation for Jo was also sent to Joe from the same town by mistake. The children ask the officials to Review the Nominations and appoint Joe their back-up runner, their subs bench.

Once Joe is discovered trying to get Jo to drop out of the race, the officials are joined by the Queen to sing Is it right, is it Fair? and the children discover the need to be strong and true and play fair.

The big day arrives and with the eye of the nation on them, each of the nominees runs their leg of the Flame Relay (Running). Tools is supported by her sister Ali, Andy is inspired by his granddad and when Jo trips and falls she is helped across the line by Joe. The show concludes with Luna running the last leg of the relay and lighting national Flame.

‘Flame! A Musical Journey’ is a very accessible show with an engaging plot and nine very memorable songs.
